- Environmental Working Group
This is the environmental working group, and has excellent articles on the foods that you need to buy, organics, (gives you a cheat sheet on the top foods, that are polluted with pesticides and the top foods that if you can't buy organic has the least amount of pesticides), great lists to print out for everything from products to use on your baby to how antibacterial soaps are toxic…simple one page sheets. Also had a great article this summer on the best sunscreens to buy for your family and why (scary how toxic that stuff is and how it can affect your fertility (estrogen) and affect your baby's hormones. The head of the EWG had some great things to say when Gupta from CNN did his show this summer called Toxic America. He was interviewed on the show.
- Also read up on the article on BPA (endocrine disruptor and mimics hormones…bad for mom and baby) and where it is literally all canned foods etc…they do provide a list of the very few companies who do not use BPA in their products (glass and canned). Yes, even most products in glass have BPA on the lid (the waxy stuff)…I had no clue but now try to buy only on the list of foods that don't have it…but really fresh food is best…just another reason why.
- Cosmetic Data Base
I love this site…it's a sister site to ewg.org…you can look up almost any product you use from shampoo to mascara (make sure you look up any products you use on your babies or children) and they will rate it on a scale of 1 to 10 for toxicity for cancer and hormone disrupting chemicals etc. They list all the ingredients and walk you through what each has been tested for. You do not want to use anything rated over a 4. So many products are endocrine disruptors and mimic hormones and have a big impact on women's fertility. Also…the products you put on your body go directly to your baby and could affect their fertility in the long term. They have a whole section devoted to baby products.
