About Dr. Brown
View Dr. Brown's CV
With a commitment to excellence and deep concern for his patients, Dr. Esteban Ortega Brown established the Reproductive Institute of South Texas in 1992. In the fall of that year, the first Valley Fertility clinic baby was born from artificial insemination. Since then, Dr. Brown has helped thousands of couples reach their dream of parenthood.
Dr. Brown began his career by attending the prestigious Stanford University, receiving his Bachelors degree in Economics in 1979. He continued his education in medicine from 1979 to 1984 at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas where he earned his MD. Between 1984 and 1988, he completed his internship and residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas with a specialty in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Dr. Brown then completed a three-year fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the University of Pennsylvania. As Dr. Brown honed his skills and expanded his knowledge about infertility so that he could help infertile patients in South Texas, advances occurred in In-vitro fertilization techniques. Clinical IVF procedures improved during the 1980s, and in the 1990s, the process of intracytoplasmic sperm injections (ICSI) was developed. By the year 2000, over 1 million IVF babies were born worldwide, including many welcomed by our South Texas clinic families.
Using his experience to benefit doctors in training, Dr. Brown works with interns and residents at the South Texas Family Practice residency program. Currently, Dr. Brown resides in McAllen, Texas with his wife and four children. He is native to the area, having graduated valedictorian in 1975 from PSJA High School.
